Biography

Birth25 April 1372William de Ferrers was born on 25 April 1372 in Luton Borough, Bedfordshire, England (Medieval), EuropeG.1
Marriage10 October 1388He and Philippa de Clifford were married on 10 October 1388 in County of Staffordshire, England (Medieval), EuropeG.
Death18 May 1445He died on 18 May 1445 at age 73 in Woodham Ferrers, Essexshire, England (Medieval), EuropeG. The unsourced cause of his death (at the age of 73) on Sunday, May 18th, 1445 is not known-surviving in 1445 was difficult & it occurred in Medieval England

Source date also shows date as 8-May
Burial20 May 1445He was buried on 20 May 1445 at Buried in an unknown cemetery in UlverscroftG in Charnwood Borough, Leicestershire, England (Medieval), EuropeG.
Note"Anc of Jeremy Clark of R. I…" by A. R. Justice, which says he was 5th Baron of Groby, gives his baptism (christening) and death but doesn't give sources. It gives his wife's name and her parents but no date of marriage

LDS proxy temple ordinances are [taken] from the IGI at the Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah. "Anc. of Jeremy Clarke…" [and] says "The will of William Ferrers, Lord of Groby, dated May 17, 1445, pr. at Lambeth June 2,1445, desired to be buried in the Priory Monastery of Ulvescroft, mentions his son Thomas who inherited the manors and advowsons of Walton and Tettenhall, and the manors of Champeyns in Woodham Ferris, Flecknoe, Hethe and Claverly."

There are more generations given for this family in the above sources but the date given for his father's birth was 16 Feb 1355/6 and the date for his marriage "prior to April 27, 1371". This would make him under 15 at marriage and only 16 when William was born

Also, there are other questionable dates in earlier generations. The Medieval Families Identification Unit of the Family History Department of the Church of J. C. of LDS is conducting research on all families that lived before 1500 A. D. and/or are tied to nobility lines. The pedigree from William Ferrers back to Charlemagne, 742 A.D., is given in "Anc. of Jeremy Clarke…"

[from FamilySearch].
Baptismafter 25 April 1372William de Ferrers was baptized after 25 April 1372 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England (Medieval), EuropeG. He was baptized at birth and also Christened a few days late
Christening3 May 1372He was christened on 3 May 1372 at Hoo Manor in Charsfield, Suffolk County, England (Medieval), EuropeG.
Title3 February 1388He held the title of Succeeded to the title of 5th Baron (Lord) Ferrers of Groby; Sir on 3 February 1388 in Groby, Leicestershire, England (Medieval), EuropeG. His Title was derived from name; he also succeeded to the title of 5th Baron (Lord) Ferrers of Groby

Jacki points out that "it's not surprising to find that the paths of Samuel Shave and Elizabeth Sebley crossed as Elizabeth's father [John Sebley] was a grocer in Winterbourne Whitechurch, and so much for the romantic tale of Samuel's itinerancy and Elizabeth's being a squire's daughter

The source of such oral recounting may have been due to the fact that many of the Shave family did work as domestics (or possibly at least as providers-of-services) to the large Whatcombe House and estates, located about a mile north of Winterbourne Whitechurch

It's actually hard to find names of Samuel's immediate family on the records as having worked there; but some of the family of his uncle David Robert Shave (Richard's younger brother by two years) seems Mohave had recordable positions at Whatcombe House. This was particularly true by the 1881 census. It is possible that Richard and Samuel were attached to the estate as tailors. ."
