Name | | Marguerite Lilian Ethel Ruddlesdin, Don's Maternal GGM, was also known as Marguerette Lillian. |
Name | | She was also known as Nan-Nan. |
Name | | She was also known as Margaret.8 |
Note | | NanNan (Marguerite Lilian Ethel Evans-her name is shown in the National Index, where both place and date match the person) is Don's Maternal Great-Grandmother…
She died when Jamie was just 5 years and 2 months old, leaving only vague memories of her visits with us and from a few photographs
A tiny woman, she raised her two grandchildren (Don's Mum, Lilian Maud and his Uncle Joe) from a very early age, starting around 1934. She took the children under her wing because their mother, Maud (her daughter, Ern's wife) had died just 9 days after giving birth to Joe in February of 1932… the transition was forced when her new daughter-in-law (Ern had remarried just a few months after Maud's death) decided that she could no longer manage her husband's two existing children…
Another fact for NanNan is her time spent during WWII, where they had moved from Enfield to (Don believes) Wales to be away from London…
Her child, Stanley and his wife Edie also lived with them from 1940 to 1947, when Stanley was wounded as a soldier from the Battle of Dunkirk
She would sit by the fireplace in her child's rocking chair that had been made by her Dad as a gift for her 5th birthday. It was made of oak, and was still beautifully polished; she was a tiny woman so it still fit her
Nan-Nan had a crippled hand from a thorn that her neighbor had tried to dig out, damaging the tendons. She also had disabled legs and a hip from being hit by a car as she walked to town to shop
This story is based on the birth of Daisy's 1st child, Margaret Patricia, in July of 1933, which was when Joe was about 18 months old… ------------------- While there's no actual data available, multiple sources (the authors' thoughts about the relevant dates from his family tree, the world-wide events at that time and some threads of memory from his Mum, Lilian Maud) conspire to create this reasonably accurate thread.
