Name | | Martin Pagel was also known as Pagal.9 |
Note | | [Ms. Becky received] a partial copy of a book from her grandmother, Joyce Magalane Pagel, born April 16, 1924, (who is in Don's tree) about Martin Pagel, which was written in 1996, so [she's] sure that there are some updates to it by now. The book covers up to the fifth generation of Martin Pagel
The book starts with Martin Pagel and Charlotte (Kroening) along with 1 step-daughter and 9 children coming to America and landing in New York. It states that they arrived May 5, 1868 from the Port of Bremen. Record: 11 May 1869, Martin & Charlotte Pagel and 9 children arrived from Bremen in NYC; they arrived on ship "Carl"
It also states that:
Martin had been born at Kummerow, near Malchin, Providence of Pomerania, Prussia
Martin had first married Margaret Kroening (Charlotte's sister) and had one child, Amelia born January 11, 1845, in Kummerow. After Margaret's death, he married Charlotte Kroening and had 10 children, 9 of whom were born in Prussia
From what it looks like, a lot of the families were in the Town of Suamico area, Brown County, Wisconsin. Some families are buried in the Kunesh Cemetery, near the Town of Pittsfield, Brown County, Wisconsin. Some are from the Seymour area, in Outagamie County
There are over 500 families listed in the book, dates that need to be filled in and in some instances, last names of spouses
There are a couple copies of Petition for Naturalization papers filed in Brown County, Wisconsin (for Herman Pagel and Otto Pagel) and some from Oconto County, Wisconsin (for Frank Pagel and Albert Pagel)
Hope this helps a little bit Becky cuz7senuf@hotmail.com 2005

On the 29th of March, Mr. Martin Pagel died in his home in Big Suamico from old-age weakness at 82
He was born on 21 Oct 1817 in Hinterpommern, came to America with his family in April 1869 and settled in Big Suamico; here he wed happily and luckily with his "Kattin" and founded a homestead on his farm after which he lived 52 years happily with his "Kattin", death separated them on Mar. 29th; he had to take to his bed for only 3 weeks
His last hours were peaceful and he slumbered across into a better life
Pastor Proehl of Pittsfield buried him in his last peace
Deep grieves are by his Kattin and 4 sons and 6 daughters at the grave of their husband and father; tears of sadness for him
A son and a daughter had gone before him already into eternity
His widow and family say the [?] thanks for [?] |

Marriage | 1619 | He and Margery Evered, {tagged} Research marriage, were married in 1619 at Sussex (East or West)G in County of Sussex, England (Tudor), EuropeG. [ from an HTML file ]
Their marriage has been listed in a source on ancestry.com as taking place in 1619 in Connecticut which is a problem, since no European is known to have been living in Connecticut at that time and Connecticut was not founded until Jan 1788
Robert and his wife, Margery, were also found on a passenger list coming to the New World in 1634 and that is also very unlikely that this was their third voyage across the Atlantic
Instead, [Dave] believes that they married in England - probably in Sussex - prior to their emigration in 1634. There is a record of some kind listing that Margery married another Robert in May 1619 in England. This could be true and it is possible that her marriage to Robert Rose was her second marriage. It could also be that Robert took on an alias for unknown reason prior to his voyage. All this needs to be investigated
Regardless of what is resolved from the English records, it is obvious that Robert and Margery did not marry in Connecticut in 1619. This is yet another proof that the U.S. and International Marriage Records source should not be trusted as a true and sole source of any marriage. This "source" is never first-hand and rarely second-hand and must always be verified to weed out the numerous errors that this source contains
(Everyone should note that it is stated that these "records" are "derived from an array of materials including pedigree charts, family history articles, querie," ALL of which were developed well after the date of the event and ALL with a vested interest in the result. The Rose-Evered marriage is just one example of many errors that I have found obvious in this source.)
