Note		William Eldred (which somehow became changed to Eldredge) b. 1622-England d. 1679-Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts burial: South Chatham Cemetery-South Chatham, Barnstable, Massachusetts NOTE: both Birth and Death years are approximate. Name variants Eldridge and Eldredge It has been mentioned that Cemetery Transcriptions from the NEHGS Manuscript Collections show he and his wife are buried in Bethel Cemetery, South Chatham, MA. However, I cannot find this reference in that collection. And the earliest burial in that cemetery is 1831… so he may be buried elsewhere He was possibly the son of Thomas Eldred (1595-1640) and Anna Watson Eldred (1595-1642) of Ipswich, Co. Suffolk, England Other sources indicate he may have been the son of Robert Eldred and Anne (Graham) Eldred of Winfarthing, Co. Norfolk Early historians of the Massachusetts colonies reported that the immigrants, Robert (of Yarmouth and Monomoy, MA), Samuel (of Cambridge, MA and Stonington,CT) and William Eldred, were brothers, but later research indicates that Samuel was not a brother of the other two William is recorded a resident of Yarmouth in 1645 and probably at that time had been there for several years. It was about 1647 when William married Anne Lumpkin. William and Ann settled down near her parents beside a brook later called Eldred's Brook in what is now the town of Dennis. The property adjoined that of Thomas Howes William Eldridge was appointed constable of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, in 1657-62-74-75-77; was also surveyor of highways in that town Spouse: Anne (Lumpkin) Eldredge (___-1676) Children: Anne Eldredge (1648- Sarah (Eldredge) Bentley (1650-1731) Elisha Eldredge (1653-1739) Bethia Eldredge (1648- John Eldredge (1654-1728) Samuel Eldredge (1655-1706) Jehoshaphat Eldredge (1658-1732) Joseph Eldredge, and William Eldredge, Jr. It is questionable whether there was a son named Thomas (1645-) Source: William Eldredge (1622-1679)-Find A Grave Memorial (Find A Grave Memorial #: 47960183) Otis, in Cape Cod 47 incorrectly shows him as son of William and Ann (Lumpkin) Eldredge Note: It appears that most if not all of the members of this family spent part of or all of their lives in Yarmouth Mass Possible Grandchildren: The following names were believed to be researched out by Donna Jean Steveson Lewis, and given to Otelia and Arthur Hedman, 7130 S E Center St., Portland, Oregon, 1-503-774-1482; and may or may not be grandchildren of William Eldridge: Mary Eldridge, born 1690; Jeremiah Eldridge, born 1690; Hannah Eldridge, born 1690; George Eldridge 1690; Sarah Eldridge, born 1688.
