Note | | A book from the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, titled "Mayflower Families Through Five Generations" / Volume 22 is about the descendants of Gov. William Bradford
On page 3 it gives the names of three children who were born to William Bradford & Alice Carpenter (Southworth) Bradford: William Bradford, born 17 June 1624 Mercy Bradford, born before May 1627 Joseph Bradford, born about 1630 (date is in question)
It also gives information about John Bradford, born about 1618 to William Bradford and Dorothy May Bradford and indicates that John was born in Leyden, Holland
Mercy is also mentioned on page 1 of this same book. This is a quote from one of the paragraphs on page 1: " In the 1623 Division of Land William Bradford received three acres. In the 1627 Division of Cattle William Bradford, Alles (?) Bradford, William Bradford Jr., and Mercy Bradford were named. "
Mercy is also mentioned on page 9 as being a descendant of William Bradford (born before May 1627 and died probably before 9 May 1657 (not mentioned in father's will). She married in Plymouth 21 Dec 1648 Benjamin Vermayes (or Fearmayes)
Further information on page 9 indicates that Benjamin (who was Mercy's husband) died before Sept 28 1665 in "Ginne" (Africa?). The question mark is in the book. It appears that he was either born or living in "Ginne" before their marriage. The author who had done this research seemed uncertain about whether he had been living in Africa, or not. A quote from page 9 indicates "Benjamin and Mercy Fearmayes left no known children."
On page 13, it lists 7 children born to John and Mercy (Warren) Bradford. Their 4th child was named Mercy Bradford. She was born 20 Dec 1681
On page 19, there is another person by the name of Mercy Bradford who was baptized in Boston on 2 Sept, 1660 and was married in Hartford, Conn. in 1680 to Samuel Steele. [comment: this is the daughter of Major William Bradford-William Bradford's son JPT]
The foregoing information was graciously provided by: Virginia Fishburne Gordon giniagordon@gmail. |
Christening | 22 May 1627 | Mercy Bradford was christened on 22 May 1627 in The Plymouth Colony (West of the Cape Cod Bay), British Colonial America (North America)G+. |
