I knew that he died in 1907, but could not understand why or how he passed away in Southampton, [his] death cert explains why Sadly this death left his young wife Sarah with three young children Eliza (who was a midget), Basel (Don's Grandfather) and Hilda. They all traveled back to Weymouth where Eliza and her Mother were able to gain work; alas Basel and Hilda were surplus, so to speak So, very sadly, Basel was put into the Seamanship Orphanage in Brixham Devon, and poor little Hilda was placed in the Exmouth mental asylum for feeble learning difficulties Times must have been really hard early 1900's. Trying to find out more re Seaman's orphanage and Exmouth orphanage as they both respectively are listed there in 1911 census."
