Cecelia C. VandenLangenberg passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the age of 94 in Howard, Wisconsin; she was born as the tenth of eleven children on February 2, 1925 to the late Charles and Margaret (Kustka) Froelich
Ceil attended St. Francis Xavier High School and then transferred to St. Joseph Academy, graduating in 1943. She then graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1946 and for many years, Ceil and her classmates attended monthly lunches together
Ceil worked as an RN at St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay for one year, she then married the love of her life, Donald on April 17, 1948 at St. Philips Catholic Church; Donald preceded her in death on February 27, 1991
They dairy farmed and raised nine children together. In 1982, Donald and Ceil built and operated the Hi-Way Restaurant in Abrams until their retirement in 1991
Ceil was very active with her volunteer work within the church. She was in the choir, taught catechism and assisted with funeral dinners. While Ceil was raising her family, she often provided neighborhood nursing care. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Louis Catholic Church in Abrams and the Mother's Club at Abrams Elementary. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends in Abrams. Donald and Ceil loved to go out dancing. Ceil was a kind and humble woman. Her heart was filled with faith and a love of God. In her later years, she liked to crochet and make afghans for many organizations. Ceil moved to Brookview Meadows in Howard in 2012 and then joined St. John the Baptist Catholic Church
She is survived by her children, Mary (Gordon) Manske, Clare (Bill) Ryan, Jan (Dan) Glime, Tom (Amy) VandenLangenberg, Tim (JoAnn) VandenLangenberg, Jim (Tricia) VandenLangenberg and Paul (Diane) VandenLangenberg; grandchildren, Andrew ( Shannon) Bruskiewicz, Mark Bruskiewicz, Bridget Ryan, Danny Ryan, Lizzie Ryan, Emily (Jesse) Seewald, Katie Kleinke, Ali (Matt) Luebbers, Dave (Anna) VandenLangenberg, Matt VandenLangenberg, Sam (Laura) VandenLangenberg, Rachel VandenLangenberg, Rob (Brittany) VandenLangenberg, Kim (Greg) Malingowski, Abby VandenLangenberg, Willie VandenLangenberg, Emma VandenLangenberg, Luke VandenLangenberg, Nicholas VandenLangenberg, Maria VandenLangenberg and Maggie VandenLangenberg; 16 great grandchildren, special niece, Dolores Eisch; brother-in-law, Roland VandenLangenberg; sisters-in-law, Luella Froelich, Nancy (Roger) Denis, Ruth Watermolen, Dorothy VandenLangenberg and Ann VandenLangenberg; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret (Fritz) Alsteen; son, John VandenLangenberg; granddaughter-in-law, Sara Bruskiewicz; brothers, Benny, Albert (Regina), Wencil, Joe (Ruth) and Norbert (Dee) Froelich; sisters, Agnes (Don) Simons, Mary (John) Schweppe, Em (Max) Koehler, Dorothy (Frank) Brown and Eleanor Heimerl
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Funeral Mass 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Jim Lucas officiating. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Stiles. Proko-Wall Funeral Home is assisting the family.
