Marriage | 1469 | Ferdinand, II, and she were married in 1469 in Aragón, Spain, EuropeG. Ferdinand II was King of Sicily from 1468 and King of Aragon from 1479 until his death
As a consequence of his marriage to Isabella I, he was King of Castile jure uxoris as Ferdinand V from 1474 until her death in 1504
He was recognized as regent of Castile for his daughter and heir, Joanna, from 1508 until his own death
In 1504, after a war with France, he became King of Naples as Ferdinand III, reuniting Naples with Sicily permanently and for the first time since 1458. In 1512, he became King of Navarre by conquest
Ferdinand is today best known for his role in inaugurating the discovery of the New World, since he and Isabella sponsored the first voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1492
That year he also fought the final war with Granada which expunged the last Islamic state on Iberian soil, thus bringing to a close the centuries-long Reconquista. At his death he was succeeded by Joanna, who co-ruled with her son, Charles V, over all the Iberian kingdoms save Portugal. |

Death | about 23 November 1690 | He died about 23 November 1690 at age ~90 in Harrold, Bedfordshire, England (Tudor), EuropeG. The cause of his death (at the old-age of 90) on Thursday, November 23rd, 1690 is not known-surviving in 1690 as a very old person was difficult & it occurred in Tudor England (location not known; used birth place) |
Name | | William Button was also known as Butten.2 |
Note | | During the assembly of Don's tree a number of years ago, this William Button was shown with a *2nd Thomas* as his father (not a method that I enjoyed)…
While the erroneous connection remains an attraction, it is no longer visible (removed)…
His actual father, Thomas (Don's relation) was tagged several years ago; his father & ancestors remain unfound
Also, he was born on 23 Nov 1600 in Harrold, Bedfordshire, Tudor England as the second child of Thomas Button and Mary Price; he had four siblings, namely: Matthias, Ann, Thomas, and Robert
He died on 23 Nov 1660 in Harrold, Bedfordshire, Tudor England
Many Ancestry.com entries for *this* William Button have him as "William Mayflower Button" which is patently absurd, since the William Button who was on the Mayflower was a "youth of indeterminate age" and died on the voyage; this William Button lived to 1660. |
Military | | He served in the military Captain. |
Baptism | 23 November 1600 | He was baptized on 23 November 1600 in Harrold, Bedfordshire, England (Tudor), EuropeG.3 |

Her role in history was, first, as a marriage partner to strengthen the alliance of England and Spain (Castile and Aragón), and later, as the center of Henry VIII's struggle for an annulment that would permit him to remarry and try for a male heir to the English throne for the Tudor dynasty
The Dowager Princess of Wales ----------------- When her young husband, Arthur, Prince of Wales, died suddenly in 1502, Catherine of Aragón was left with the title of Dowager Princess of Wales. The marriage had been meant to solidify the alliance of the ruling families of Spain and England
The natural next step was to marry Catherine to Arthur's younger brother, Henry, five years younger than Catherine
