Death | 7 December 1620 | She died on 7 December 1620 at age 24 at She died within the waters of the Cape Cod Bay (near Provincetown) after their arrivalG in Southampton, Hampshire, England (Tudor), EuropeG. The cause of her death (at the age of 24) on Monday, December 7th, 1620 was from suicide-surviving in 1620 was difficult & it occurred in the pre-1776 Plymouth Colony (West of the Cape Cod Bay)
On December 7, 1620, Dorothy fell from the deck of the Mayflower into the icy waters of Provincetown Harbor, where the ship was anchored, and drowned
Her husband was with others on an expedition ashore and only learned of her death on his return to the Mayflower
She, along with many other women, was very depressed. Fellow passengers told her husband that she fell, but there is strong evidence that says she jumped, making it a suicide
She was one of four Mayflower passengers who died in 1620 between December 4, 1614 and Dec 8, 1618, including Edward Thomson, Jasper More (age 7 years), and James Chilton William Butten was the first to die in Provincetown Harbor, on November 16 in 1614 These people are all commemorated on two cenotaphs in Provincetown, one at Winthrop Street Cemetery and one at the Mayflower Passengers Who Died At Sea Memorial
Their burial places ashore are unknown and may have been unmarked in those very early days after the Mayflower landing--the death of these five persons was just a precursor of the deaths to come, consuming about half the Mayflower company in that first bitter winter of 1620-1621 |
Burial | after 17 December 1620 | She was buried after 17 December 1620 at Buried in the Winthrop Street CemeteryG in Provincetown, Colonial County of Barnstable, The Plymouth Colony (West of the Cape Cod Bay), British Colonial America (North America)G.3 |

Their son, John was born about 1617 in Leiden, Holland; he married Martha Bourne in 1650 but they had no known children. He then died in Norwich, Connecticut some time before September 21, 1676. |
Note | | William Bradford married Dorothy May in Amsterdam, Holland on December 10, 1613
