Later, when Norsemen again invaded the land, the Scots sent raids against the English, and in 954 the West Saxon king Eadred reunited the northern counties to his dominions He may have supported the establishment of a Danish kingdom of York in the 940s, and he harried the north of England. He was killed in 954 in a battle, possibly at Fetteresso, Kincardineshire by rebels from Moray.
