He is however shown as being named after the Slave Owner, John T Heiskell, in the 1860 US Federal Census-Slave Schedules which could either mean that John was his father or that he was named after the (presumed) farm…

John at that time reportedly had 80 female slaves and 39 males, one of whom was clearly Charles… as it's not a huge stretch to imagine the connection to John, I've added the relationship.
