The Audley-Stanley family has a many notable members including the Earls of Derby, who are descended from the early holders of Audley, Staffordshire

Origins: The first mention of Audley is in the Domesday book of 1086, when it was called Aldidelege (Aldithley), when the lands were held by an English thegn called Gamel. The descent of the Audley and Stanley families can be traced back as far as an Englishman named Ligulf of Aldithley, who held the estate not long after the Domesday survey but whose relationship, if any, to Gamel is unknown. The family later fabricated a Norman origin, at that time more prestigious than an English one, by presenting Ligulf, despite his non-Norman name and the English etymology of Aldithley, as the lord of a fictitious 'Aldithley in Normandy', and his son Adam as a follower of William the Conqueror

Per Sir Bernard Burke:

Wolfric, Lord of Aldlthley and many other manors in Staffordshire and Cheshire, and before the Conquest, in other counties in England, is the only warden of Royal forests mentioned in Domesday Book

He resided in the latter part of his life at the Lodge at Thornhili, in the Dorsetshire part of the New Forest

He married Aldith, widow of Griffin, King of Wales and Harold II, King of England, as before mentioned, and by her was the father of Gamel, Waltheus, Lord of Etchells, Bredburv, and Brinnington, co. Chester, the patriarch of many Cheshire families. (See "Ormerod's Cheshire.") Amongst his direct descendants are the Barons of Stockport, whose last representative was the Viscountess Bulkeley; and the Stopfords, Earls of Courtown, have the same lineal origin. From Lidulph de Croxton, his second son, derives, in a direct male line, the present Earl of Po-vis; and his dau., Margery, m. Gilbert Venables, Baron of Kinderton, ancestor of the present Archbishop of York, and of Lord Vernon, who is now in possession of the barony

The eldest son, Gamel, a thane of the king's Lord of Aldithley, Talk, and Balterley, co. Stafford, and of Cedde and Mottram Andrew, co. Chester, at the time of the Domesday survey, had issue, Adam De Aldithley, whose two sons were the founders of the noble families of Audley and Stanley, viz, Lidolfh and Adam, father of William, Lord of Stanley, co. Stafford, who took the name of Stanley, and from whom is descended the present Earl of Derby."

NoteCynfawr (Cynfarch) ap Tudwal
Conomor, King of Dumnonia
(Born c.AD 395)

He succeeded his father, Tutwal, and may have been the first of the Dumnonian Kings to live at Castle Dore, near Lantyan (Cornwall)

A memorial stone nearby records the burial place of his son, Tristram (or Drustanus). This name association, along with Breton stories of a King Conomor who was also known as Mark (or March: short for Cyn-march), has led to confusion with his evil great grandson. However, the Breton Conomor was a contemporary of King Childebert of Paris who ruled between 511 & 558, some hundred years after this Dumnonian
