| Note | | PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: she had turned deaf after catching German measles at the age of 4. After the separation from her husband, she suffered a nervous breakdown, which in retrospect appears to have been a traumatic menopause. No longer able to care for her 10-year-old son, she was institutionalized in Switzerland. She emerged a few years later, found religion, and established the Christian Sisterhood of Martha and Mary, an order of nuns who helped the sick and needy in Greece. During the war she sheltered Jewish families in Greece and was posthumously honored for heroism by Israel. For the rest of her days she wore a gray habit belted by a white cord and with a veil and wimple. (The Royals, by Kitty Kelley; 1997; pg. 45, 46.) |

The King, George V, dispatched a ship to Greece to forcibly remove Andrew and his family. The Prince, accompanied by his wife and their 4 daughters, boarded the HMS Calypso. He was carrying an orange crate that contained his only son, Philip, 18 months old. (from The Royals, by Kitty Kelley; 1997; pg. 44, 45)
Within 9 months in 1930, his daughters, who had been educated in Germany, each married German noblemen. One was an SS Colonel on Himmler's personal staff, and the others were Princes who supported the Nazis during World War II. One daughter, Sophie, named her eldest son Karl Adolf in honor of Adolf Hitler
With his 4 daughters securely married, he abandoned his borrowed home to live on the yacht of his mistress in Monte Carlo, where he became addicted to the gaming tables. He left behind his 10-year-old son. His wife, Alice, collapsed. (The Royals, by Kitty Kelley; 1997; pg. 45.) |

| Historical fact | 16 November 1937 | She; at Ostende AirportG in Stene, Oostende, Belgium, EuropeG, on 16 November 1937 Just one year before the start of World War II, Princess Cecilie was eight months pregnant with her fourth child; in October or 1937 her husband, Georg Donatus’ father, the Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse had died. Shortly after, the family arranged a match between Prince Ludwig (Georg Donatus’ brother) and the Hon. Margaret Campbell-Geddes
On Tuesday, November 16th, 1938 Cecilie & most of her family boarded a flight from Frankfurt to London for the wedding, where the weather was absolutely clear and sunny when they took off
As it became extremely foggy, the pilot decided to make a landing near Brussels. However, he could not do so because of the dense fog and decided to land at Ostende, the next adjoining airport
It turned out that Ostende Airport also had dense fog. as the pilot was not able to spot a tall factory chimney, one of the aircraft’s wings hit the chimney and within minutes the plane burst into flames and crashed to the ground killing everyone on board
When the rescue team arrived, they found the dead body of a newly-born baby within the wreckage-the Princess had given birth to her fourth child during the flight
Her daughter, Johanna (aged 14 months at that time) had been left at home because she was considered too young to accompany the family, and Cecilie was uncomfortable taking her on the flight, due to the fact that the Princess was mortally terrified of flying; she was adopted by the people at the wedding
