Edward Colver [in People]


Edward (Colver) Culver is the patriarch of the Culver Family in America, a Puritan emigrant from Middlesex, England, where John Winthrop and his son recruited a band of colonists. Edward sailed from the Port of London in 1635. Edward's name appears on the original Covenant entered into by members of the Colony at Boston for settlement of "Contentment" (later changed to Dedham, Ma.) September 10, 1636. Edward's occupation is reported as a millwright and a wheelwright

Edward participated in the Indian Wars and in King Philip's War in 1675. For his services as Scout and Indian Fighter, Edward was rewarded with four grants of land. One of the grants he named "Chepadas" which his descendants held for many years. Edward moved to Mystic, CT. in 1668
