My tree exhibits the records. He was born as a Roper, being named "William Adolphus Henry Roper" after his mother (Annie Elizabeth Sarah Neale Roper, 1859-1944ish, who was unmarried at that time) at his christening in Longbredy church; he is described by this record as illegitimate [Annie] then marries William Pearcey (1861) almost immediately after the birth; the 1881 census has William Pearcey (1879) as "son" but we never knew if William Pearcey was his biological father.
