Arrival in Ellis Island, New York Harbor

Ellis Island was the busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 to 1954, processing ~12 million people who were bound for the US or Canada Many were from Southern and Eastern Europe including Russians, Italians, Slavs, Jews, Greeks, Poles, Serbs, and Turks The island is federally owned today and is in the New York Harbor within the 2 states of New York and New Jersey, and is a part of the U.S. Statue of Liberty National Monument The north side of the island hosts a museum of immigration (accessible only by ferry) and the south side of the island, including the Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, is abandoned but accessible to the public through guided tours See the pages here for more data: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellis_Island https://www.history.com/topics/immigration/ellis-island
