Formed in 1728 for the French Protestant refugees at Manakin Towne in Henrico County In 1749, Cumberland County was formed from Goochland, and Chesterfield County from Henrico, and King William Parish went into the new counties only After Powhatan County was formed from Cumberland County, in 1777, the parish served all three counties
