I said farewell to PaintPot the Cat in 1999, one Sad Summer's Day…
-- A Gentle Soul Sleeps --
My cat, PaintPot, reached 15 years of fun-loving age in '99, but was becoming a shadow of his former self.
With diabetes and loss of his sight, after trying to help him for several months with shots & pills, I took him to the vet one last time in June.
The wonderful people there were kind to me in my sadness, even sending me a sympathy card.
Here are some of the memories of this wonderful friend, and of another from some years back, Betsy.
Paintpot's wonderful face, always smiling
…he loved his favorite spots
in the sun on the rug!
Here's our other old friend, Betsy, who's been gone for a few years
another loyal and loving face.
Her favorite spot was snoozing on the pink chair
…2 good friends of mine from years ago.
Farewell to an Old Friend was penned on June 17th, 1999 by PaintPot's best friend in the world, me
My dear old cat passed away today, so peacefully.
A Gentle Soul Sleeps
He always came & said "Hello"
and "How was your day?" ("Meeow")
when you walked in from work.He always snuggled up with us
to watch TV or listen to our chats, and purr.Sometimes he'd smell the turkey out there, or
ham or his favorite: Tuna, or another feline
delight: Milk -- and he'd be asking and asking
and asking: "Hey! Please Oh, Please,
PLEASE share!"He loved so much to stop outside and
smell the summer yard, watch a bird, listen to a
rustling squirrel, tail all a-twitching eyes BIG!
He'd find a tasty blade or two of
his outdoors favorite, greenest ripe tall
grass, that he could chew for a tasty
juicy snack. So who cares that
it made him throw up?He was always such a happy guy.
Even in his old age, with all his
joints cracking & aching, and sight slowly
fading through grey to black, he
still found his friends -- the Big Cat
People -- and rubbed a leg to say to them
"Hey, how about my ear-scratch?" and Purrrr! If there were such a thing as Cat
Heaven, it would have wonderful
friends to chat with when the
daily nap was done, and fresh
milk, tuna and turkey with little
scrunch snacks to follow, and a
big warm cuddly human or two to
love and be loved back.A small wish only, a hope.
Goodbye, PaintPot. Fare Well.
I do miss you so very much. DJS(written on the sidebar)
